I understand that it can be upsetting to see that you're not hitting your Step 1 percents and that's okay. Don't do extra cards and reviews if you don't have to, because those seconds spent reviewing will add up quickly.įor UWorld: ignore your percentage and use it as a learning tool. Also definitely use your bathroom breaks for cards. I would probably suggest doing cards while you eat breakfast, some cards and questions during lunch, and finish your cards and questions after you finish up for the day. I wasn't always consistent so there were definitely days where I woke up at 5am, ate breakfast, and then left without doing many cards.įor your 4:30am rotation, yikes, not sure if I would get up at 3am either. For reference, I had to be in at 6am for surgery to pre-round, and driving to the hospital took 30 minutes, so I would wake up at 4-4:30am and leave around 5:30am. Thank you, and congrats on starting rotations! I would usually try to wake up 1-1.5 hours before I left in the morning, which is much more doable on outpatient rotations than OBGYN and surgery. My Anki settings were pretty default, except my max interval was 6 months I left a good chunk of the MedicalArk cards untouched, mainly the AMBOSS ones because I didn’t do that question bank. I ended up deleting or merging a few thousand cards to lower my card count and make my life easier. It is NOT necessary to finish the entire deck for Step 2. I did not do my incorrects or a second pass.įor Anki, I used the Anking Step 2 deck. I did UWorld on shelf review mode and only switched to the Step 2 review mode after I finished my clerkships (mainly biostats, ethics, and abstract/drug ad questions left). You’d be surprised by how much you can answer based on your Step 1 knowledge alone, which is why I recommend jumping straight into UWorld once clerkships start. Step 2 is that you already have a pretty solid foundation going into UWorld for Step 2. The biggest difference in approach for Step 1 vs. I would recommend jumping straight into UWorld and making/unsuspending cards as you go. However, I do think it has some merit for getting the big picture in terms of clinical algorithms and workflow. For my first few clerkships, I used OME to get some background info before starting UWorld, but I dropped it after a while because I ended up spending too much time watching videos and not enough time doing questions. I wanted to drop by and confirm that Anki still works! For reference, I took Step 1 at the end of my M2 year and Step 2 at the end of my M3 year.ĭuring M3, my entire workflow was Anki and UWorld.
